Often, when I write music, a conceptual idea will occupy my thinking long before notes and harmonies become associated with it. Here, this is not the case; the music simply seemed to appear on the page. As such, I have little to say about it. This piece remains very mysterious to me, and for lack of a concrete image (which does not exist), I chose the title “Thaw” as an approximation of what the music seems to do over time.
