Instrumentation - Cello solo

My first student effort at IU. Many of the seeds for the material can be found in the chant section that begins and ends the piece. Gestures that make up the phrases of the chant often appear in some form or another throughout the faster sections of the music, and the tension between diatonic and chromatic melodies sets the harmonic tone. The rest of the music was written with the goal of exploring the mechanical possibilities of the cello.
